Another major area of scientific research in the Climate Modeling Section involves the study and improvement of atmospheric transport exploiting observational opportunities associated with tracer transport. Rasch, in collaboration with P. Hess and F. Vitt, has developed an offline transport version of CAM for the purpose of exploring the broad range of transport pathways as well as transport associated with resolved-scale motions. The latter topic is integrally coupled to studies of dynamical cores conducted by other CGD and NCAR investigators (Williamson, Chen, Lauritzen, Nair).
