Research Experience James (Jim) Hurrell joined the Climate and Global Dynamics Division (CGD) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) immediately following his graduate studies, where he is now a Senior Scientist. Jim is the former Director of CGD, the largest science division within the Earth and Sun Systems Laboratory at NCAR, and remains very active in upper NCAR management. Jim has convened 16 national and international workshops. He has held leadership roles in national and international science-planning and assessment efforts, and he has served on several National Research Council (NRC) panels (see Community Service). Jim’s research has centered on empirical and modeling studies and diagnostic analyses to better understand many aspects of climate, climate variability and climate change. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 publications, including: 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and reports, 4 editorials in professional journals, 4 NCAR technical notes, 23 white papers and other planning documents, and 40 conference proceedings. Jim has been acknowledged as a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson-ISI. His citation count exceeds 7,000 and his h-index is 32. He has given more than 100 professional invited and keynote talks and many contributed presentations at national and international conferences.
