CCR's Climate Change Prediction Research

CCR's Climate Change and Prediction group carries out fundamental research into understanding the processes that influence the natural variability of earth's climate system, and relates those processes to possible future manifestations of anthropogenic climate change. We perform climate change simulations with the CCSM concerned with the major forcings on the climate/carbon system such as greenhouse gases (GHGs), ozone, land cover, solar variability, volcanoes, and sulfate aerosols.

Planning for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report

We plan to apply the CCSM4 Earth System Model to perform experiments with the new Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) mitigation/adaptation scenarios for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). This model includes the detailed physical, chemical, and biological processes, interactions and feedbacks in the atmosphere, oceans, and land surface, to enable us to perform experiments with the policy-relevant RCP adaptation/mitigation scenarios.
