Greetings all,

Does anyone have any insight into how the subsurface temperatures are
derived for the initialization data set?

   Specifically, we are building new initialization data sets similar to the
standard SEP1.T42.0198.nc file. To do so we gather appropriate global
observation data (usually via initialization data sets from global weather
models) and build a new data.nc file for use with the CCM3.6.6. For the
subsurface temps, we either use the temps from the SEP1.T42.0198.nc file, or
fill the values with the surface temperature values. I suspect that both of
these methods degrades the performace of the model, thus I would like to use
more realistic, correlated subsurface temps.
