1. Tropospheric temperature simulation differences
- perform thermodynamic, momentum, and moisture-related tracer
field budgets for the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere.
- better understand impact of Van Leer vertical advection on lower
stratospheric temperature.
2. Feedbacks and Climate Sensitivity
a. Simulations Needed
- CAM slab mixed-layer simulation.
- CAM and AM2 simulation with Jim Hurrell's AMIP SST dataset, starting from 1949.
b. Analyses
- Consistent feedback analyses: Cess+2/-2; 2xCO2 mixed-layer experiments;
Wetherald/Manabe offline radiation; impacts of perpetual July vs. full annual cycle.
- AMIP simulation analysis of cold vs warm ENSO events: clouds, teleconnections, etc.
3. Double ITCZ
- Held's version of CMT in CAM; Wu's result regarding CMT.
- Impacts of precip, evaporation on tropical circulation in CAM;
understand apparent contradiction between CAM experience and Bacmeister's
RAS tuning of precipitation.
- Aquaplanet: benchmark intercomparison
- Longer-term: Donner convection and Double ITCZ in CAM and AM2
