CSM 1.x File Naming Conventions

The CCSM also has Case and File Name conventions to help keep track of the numerous simulations and their output data.

The B-Series   (active atm, ice, lnd, & ocn)

• b040   (Jun 99)
  This fully coupled run examines VP ice dynamics, lnd runoff, etc.. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2' for ocn & ice. Improvements include: higher ocn resolution near equator, ocn BBL, use of runoff in lnd & ocn, VP ice dynamics.
• IPCC 21st century A1,A2 and B2 simulations   (Winter 99)
  Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
  b030.02, b030.03, b030.04   The CSM IPCC A1 Scenario in three segments:
  1980-2000 (b030.02) 2000-2080 (b030.03) 2080-2100 (b030.04).
  6 hourly output from the atmosphere was kept for the first and third segments
  b030.05, b030.06   The CSM IPCC A2 Scenario in two segments:
  1980-2000 (b030.05) 2000-2100 (b030.06).
  b030.05, b030.10   The CSM IPCC B2 Scenario in two segments:
  1980-2000 (b030.05) 2000-2100 (b030.10).
• s020   A 21st century simulation run   (Dec 98)
  Business-as-Usual (BAU) and CO2 Emissions Controlled scenarios Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
• 20th Century (1870-1990) historical simulations   (Sep 98)
  These runs examine various combinations of time-varying sulfate, greenhouse gases and solar input at T42 atm/lnd and 2x2 ocn/ice resolution.

  b019.12   1870-1990 with time-dependent atmospheric sulfur, Greenhouse Gases, Solar Variability
• Constant 1870's, pre-industrial, control runs   (Jun-Nov 98)
  Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
  b018.12   40 year fully-coupled simulation used as initial condition for b018.15 20th century runs.
  b018.16   10 year constant 1870 simulation
  b018.16l   220 year constant 1870 simulation (continuation of b018.16)
• b006   A CO2 warming experiment   (Mar 97)
  This is a 130 year simulation with CO2 levels increasing 1% per year. Compare to case b003, a constant CO2 basis case. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
• b004   A low resolution CSM control integration   (May 97)
  A lower-resolution fully coupled control run. g008 + b004 combine to form the control run presented at the June 97 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T31 for atm & lnd and NCOM 3x3 for ocn & ice.
• b003   A primary CSM1.0 control integration (Aug 96 thru Feb 97)
  This is an improved fully coupled control run (a 300 year simulation). g006 + b003 combine form the improved fully coupled control run (a 300 year simulation) presented at the June 97 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd, NCOM 2x2 for ocn and ice.
• b001   The first CSM1.0 control run   (May 96)
  The first fully coupled CSM control run. g005 + b001 combine form the first CSM fully coupled control run. These runs were presented at the May 96 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.

The G-Series   (active ice & ocn, inactive atm & lnd)

• g040   (June 99)
  This is an improved ice+ocn spinup run. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2' for ocn & ice. Improvements include: higher ocn resolution near equator, ocn BBL, use of runoff in lnd & ocn, VP ice dynamics.
• g008   (May 97)
  A lower-resolution ice+ocn spinup run. g008 + b004 combine to form the control run presented at the June 97 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T31 for atm & lnd and NCOM 3x3 for ocn & ice.
• g007   (Sep 97)
  An ice+ocn spinup run specifically intended for experiment b007, a "pre-industrial" control simulation. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
• g006   (Jul 96)
  This is an improved ice+ocn spinup run (replaces g005). g006 + b003 combine form the improved fully coupled control run (a 300 year simulation) presented at the June 97 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
• g005   (Apr 96)
  The first CSM ice+ocn spinup run (with "climatological data models" standing in for atm & lnd components). g005 + b001 combine form the first CSM fully coupled control run. These runs were presented at the May 96 CSM Workshop. Resolution is T42 for atm & lnd and NCOM 2x2 for ocn & ice.
