About CCSM

CCSM belongs to an elite category of computer-based simulation models known as general-circulation models. Such models use mathematical formulas to recreate the chemical and physical processes that drive Earth's climate. Extraordinarily sophisticated, they incorporate phenomena ranging from the effect that volcanic eruptions have on temperature patterns to the impact of shifting sea ice on sunlight in the atmosphere. What emerges from trillions of computer calculations is a picture of the world's climate in all its complexity. [More...] [CCSM Brochure]

CCSM Administration

The CCSM Advisory Board (CAB) will serve as an advisory committee reporting to the CCSM Scientific Steering Committee, NSF Program Director, NCAR Director, and UCAR President. Membership in the CAB will come from university faculty and staff, staff members of national laboratories, and scientists from foreign universities, laboratories, and centers.

The Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) will provide scientific leadership for the CCSM project, including oversight of activities of working groups, coordination of model experiments, decision making on model definition and development.

The detailed work on various aspects of CCSM will be done in working groups. These working groups will consist of scientists who come together to work on topics on which they share common interest.
