Matthew W. Hecht

I was an associate scientist with the Oceanography Section of the Climate and Global Dynamics Division at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, from 1997 through 2002. Then, I was working on the Community Climate System Model, an effort to quantify climate sensitivity which is supported by the National Science Foundation. In addition to my general interest in the development of global ocean models for application to the study of climate, other more specific interests include numerical methods for fluid flow, realistic modelling of the process of the descent of very dense waters into the depths of the ocean, the use of trace chemical species in the oceans as diagnostic indicators of the realism of modeled ocean circulation, and North Atlantic circulation and its role in climate. Since August of 2002 I have been at Los Alamos National Laboratory, working within the COSIM program.
