Vacation Program

1.0 Introduction

The Vacation program allows one to create a message that will be sent to anyone who sends you email while you are out of the office. You will continue to receive your messages, but the sender will receive a custom message informing them of your absence. Note: Please log onto a Linux server to enable the vacation program.

3.0 Turning ON the Vacation Program - Linux Server Instructions

  1. Connect to CGD LINUX server of your choice.
  2. Type in your Unix username and password as prompted.
  3. Type "vacation" [enter] (no quotes). You will be put into an editor to edit your vacation message.

  4. Type in the text of your message..
  5. Type ctrl-x, ctrl-c to save and exit emacs editor.
    (In vi editor, hit the escape key and type ":wq" to write and quit)
  6. Once you exit the editor you will be back at the command prompt. The Vacation feature is ENABLED. Please remember to turn it off when you get back from vacation. Bon voyage.

Note: you will continue to receive all your mail messages while the vacation program is enabled. The program sends your message to the sender.

3.0 Turning OFF the Vacation Program - Linux Server Instructions

  1. Connect to CGD LINUX server of your choice.
  2. Type in your Unix username and password as prompted
  3. Type "rm .forward " [enter] (no quotes) to remove the .forward file.
  4. That's it - Vacation is now disabled.
