Windows Printing for CGD Visitors
In order to print to CGD printers you will need to have a VPN client installed and configured to use the UCAR/NCAR VPN connection. Printing will not work unless you are running VPN. To obtain software for VPN please visit the following website: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/systems/documentation/faqs/networks/vpn.html
- Start up VPN and connect to the UCAR/NCAR VPN system.
- Once connected go to Start --> Settings --> Printers and Faxes --> Add Printer
- Click Next

- Next choose Local Printer and uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer."

- Choose to Create a new Port, and from the pull down menu choose "Standard TCP\IP port" and press Next to continue the
process.

- At this screen press Next

- You should see:

Choose which printer you would like to install by entering the IP address of the printer from the following webite: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/systems/documentation/faqs/printing/printers.html
DO NOT enter the name, you must enter the IP address. Leave the port Name as the default name Windows chooses for it. - At this screen hit 'Finish'

You may be promped with the following:

Choose 'Standard' and from the pull down menu leave it at 'Generic Network Card.' You will then return to the previous screen so hit Finish again. - Once the port is created you will need to specify what printer model it is and load that particular driver.
Printers and their models are listed here: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/systems/documentation/faqs/printing/printers.html

If your specific printer is not listed (because you do not have the proper driver loaded on your workstation) you have one of two choices. We recommend downloading the correct driver from the manufacture's website or you can choose a model/driver that is close to the printer model you are trying to install. - Windows may ask if you want to use the existing driver:

We recommend you keep the existing driver. Press Next to continue. - Windows now prompts you to name the printer. Enter the printer name and choose if you want it to be your default printer.

Click Next - You will see:

Choose 'Do not share this printer' and click Next. You will then be asked if you would like to print a test page. We recommend you do. Click Next to continue. - You will see:

Press 'Finish' to finish. If you asked for a test page to be printed Windows will send the print job and ask if it was successful. Reply 'Ok' to that dialog. If the test page was not sucessful you will need to change your printer model or driver.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please put in a work request.
