On Tue 26 Aug 2008, the UCAR VPN systems will be change to require a cryptocard for auththentication instead of a UCAS password. Anyone currently using the VPN will have to obtain a cryptocard before that time. This change is occurring as a result of a long-term plan formulated after the 2004 break-ins, and also as a result of recommendations by the Office of Management and Budget with regard to the protection of sensitive information for federal agencies. Two educational sessions are being held for those that are inexperienced with using a cryptocard.
