Young Scientist Network for AIMES

or

International Postdoctoral Scientist Network for Earth Systems Science

Our Goal:
To foster collaborations among Young Scientists on integrative research to better understand the role of humans in perturbing biogeochemistry and climate.

We plan workshops, casual meetings, forums and an interactive website to promote collaborations. An important aspect of this network is its integrative and international nature.

Benefits of the network to participants:

·        Meet other young scientists from around the world and in different disciplines.

·        Exchange advice and contacts regarding developing scientific careers.

·        Seek feedback on your work, its applicability to other disciplines, and publishing opportunities.

·        Become part of a network of future scientific leaders, including those like yourself who could become journal editors, research grant donors, and department heads.

·        Develop international and cross-discipline collaborations, leading to cutting-edge science.

·        Foster science education, outreach, and in-reach by learning and teaching your peers and their non-scientific communities about your work.

Announcements:

Second Workshop in Mexico City, Mexico, September 9-10, 2006

Urbanization Interactions with Biogeochemistry and Climate

Following the recommendations of the participants in the first workshop, we are having a focused workshop with more interactions between the young scientists, which will have the goal of writing up a review paper on the topic.  Apply now to participant and become a member of the AIMES YSN.  Not all members of the YSN are expected to attend every meeting.

To apply, send CV, letter of recommendation, statement of research interest (especially relevant to theme) to asp-ysn@asp.ucar.edu by May 1 (deadline extended).  Plan to also attend the GCP meeting: submit abstracts for that meeting by May 1 (deadline extended) (see web page below for more details).  If you are selected to participant in the YSN meeting, we plan to cover your expenses for both the YSN and GCP meetings (September 4-10).

·         Announcement for YSN part of meeting.

·         Tentative Agenda for YSN part of meeting

·         Associated GCP Meeting on:Carbon Management at Urban and Regional Levels: Connecting Development Decisions to Global Issues (September 4-8, 2006).  Abstract deadline May 1 (deadline extended).

Young Scientists’ Global Change Conference 2006, Beijing, China

Next to the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) Open Science Conference (November 9-12, 2006).

AIMES YSN will support 3 participants for the START ESSP YSN conference in Beijing.  Apply through START.  You can indicate on your application your interest in the AIMES YSN as well.  Application deadline extended to March 31, 2006.
