Karina Von Schuckmann
Dr. von Schuckmann is a highly promising early-career scientist with expertise in diagnostic analysis of ocean heat content, global sea level, and Earth’s energy balance. She has done several in-depth analyses of the Argo data set focussed mostly on the ocean heat content but is now also involved in the fresh water (or salinity) aspects. She has also adopted the broader view of the problem related to climate change and the Earth's energy imbalance at the top-of-atmosphere, and where that heat goes. Of course most (over 90%) goes into the ocean but this is the larger framing of the problem; something we have worked on in CGD.
She is a postdoc/researcher at Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO), University of Toulon, France and has also been a postdoc elsewhere. She is involved in CLIVAR and leading a project related to this topic there and via a working group through ISSI (International Space Science Institute) in Bern, Switzerland. She is a Doktor der Naturwissenschaften (Ph.D.) and the topic of the thesis was:"Intraseasonal variability in the tropical Atlantic Ocean" from Christian Albrechts University Kiel, Germany.
