Toby Ault

Dr. Ault received his PhD from the University of Arizona in 2011, then completed an ASP postdoctoral fellowship at NCAR (2011-2013), and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University. Toby has broad research interests that span past, present and future climate variability and change, with particular areas of emphasis on mega-drought risk, ENSO/PDO, and plant phenology. His methods entail data synthesis from observational sources as well as numerical and statistical modeling. Toby has approximately 95 publications, with over 2000 citations and an h-index of 23.

This remarkable record of achievement so early in his career, as well as his breadth of research interests, merit the distinction of a CGD Named Visitor. His visit will make particularly strong and important contributions to CGD by establishing connections and collaborations with members of CAS, PCC, TSS and beyond. Toby is a prime user of the CESM1 "Large Ensemble" and "Last Millennium Ensemble", and his expertise in observational data analysis, modeling and statistics will benefit all of us in CGD.
