03.05 - Labels

Gmail uses "Labels" rather than "Folders" to organize e-mail.

The primary advantage is that an individual e-mail can have several different labels. Therefore, a single e-mail can exist under several conversations.

If an e-mail is pertinent to several topics, now you'll be easily able to find it, rather than try and remember where the original e-mail was stored.

When you delete a message, it automatically receives a Trash label. This is a good thing, as most e-mail is transitory in nature, and once acted on can be deleted. Gmail further assists by automatically deleteing your Trash every 30 days.

If you need to retain an e-mail for record keeping purposes, give it an appropriate label.
